Webb Elementary School
August 21, 2019
Dear Webb Families,
I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well and enjoying your summer. We will be back at school before we know it, so I wanted to take a minute to welcome you all back and give you some important information to make your transition back to school as smooth as possible.
First and foremost, we want to make sure that your children are enrolled in Hazel Park Schools if you are planning to have them attend Webb next year. It is important that you go online and re-enroll them. If you need support with this, please contact the office.
Our staff will be ready to go on our first day with students which is Tuesday, August 27th. School starts on that day at 12:30PM. Dismissal will be the regular time of 3:10PM. We will have staff members out front starting around 12PM to help direct parents and students to their correct lines around the building. The 2nd-5th grade students will line up in the front of the building and the K-1st grade students will continue to line up on the side of the building facing the parking lot. After the first day we will go back to our regular schedule of school starting at 8:10AM. Don’t forget the first bell rings at 8:05 each day and students are marked tardy if they are not in the classroom or with the teacher by the time that 8:10 bell rings. Starting with our first full day of school on Wednesday students are able to join us for free breakfast beginning at 7:40AM. Students are NOT to be dropped off before that time as there will be no supervision and the doors will be locked. If you need to come earlier please contact the school for information on latch key.
All kindergarten and Young 5’s families will be allowed into the classrooms on the first day of school ONLY. After that, we ask that your child joins his/her teacher in line with the rest of the class and departures happen at the door. Sometimes teary eyes go away as soon as mom and dad leave. We appreciate your help and support with this as we continue to work to keep our school a safe place for students to learn.
There have been many great things happening in the district over the summer and there will be quite a few new faces at Webb as we start the school year. A few staff members have retired or moved away and we also had so many kindergarten students enroll that we are adding an extra kindergarten class. While we will miss many of those who have left, we are excited with the new staff we have hired and are looking forward to a successful school year. That being said, please do not be surprised if the teacher your child has been assigned to changes. We are working with the enrollment/pupil accounting office to get that updated, but this is a busy time of year for them. Be patient but keep checking back. Please see the list of staff members below:

Don’t forget that ALL doors to Webb will be locked all day long. The exception to this is the front doors will be open from 7:30-8:30AM for students to enter the building for breakfast/class. We will, however, have school personnel on hand to monitor the door while it is open. Only adults with updated background check forms will be allowed past school personnel for breakfast. Any adults planning on volunteering in classrooms, helping with class parties or attending field trips must have a valid background check on file as well. Don’t forget that you will need to get a new background check EACH YEAR. It is always a good idea to get this out of the way at the beginning of the year so that you are set for the whole school year. If you would like to get this done before school starts, feel free to stop in the school office to pick one up.
We are excited that Woodward Heights is scheduled to be open before school starts. As always, please be mindful of others in the parking lot and ALWAYS drive with caution. We would not want anything happening to any of our Webb kids, family members or staff.
Due to a family obligation, I will not be in the building for the first week of school. There are staff members in place to make sure everything runs smoothly. If you have any questions/concerns you can check in at the office and Mrs. Martin will help direct you to someone who can help you.
I have attached our August/September lunch menu. We will continue to have free breakfast and lunch for all of our students here at Webb. Please remember that if you have a child with asthma or food allergies, you will need to supply us with the appropriate medicine (including Benadryl if it is part of the allergy action plan) to support your child’s needs. You will also need to have a medication form filled out and signed by your child’s doctor. That can be picked up in the school office.
I am beyond happy to tell you that Latchkey enrollment and pay is now ONLINE! You can register at:
The school office is now open if you need to drop in and pick up forms or call and ask questions. Please also mark your calendars for our Back to School Meet the Teacher Night on September 4th at 6:30PM. Our 2019-20 Calendar is also attached below. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, August 27th at 12:30PM.
